Welcome to Wellington Pétanque Club
Winners of Devon Pétanque League 2024
Wellington is a market town in Somerset, 7 miles south west of Taunton and close to the Devon border. The terrain is in a tranquil setting adjacent to The Basins, a nature conservation area which includes two ponds built in the early 19th century to provide a controllable water supply to the local woollen mill.
The club logo shows the Wellington Monument with a pétanque boule as the background.
Wellington Pétanque Club was formed in 2018. The terrain was provided by the local authority and it is considered to be one of the best in the South-West. It is close to Wellington Sports Centre where free car parking is available.
Pétanque (more commonly known in France as Boules) is an addictive game. It looks deceptively simple but it takes practice to throw steel boules, weighing around 700 grams, accurately between 6 – 10 metres while standing in a small circle. It can be played by all ages and abilities together.
The club has about 50 members and we play year round on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons - we have vacancies for new members on Thursdays. We hold club competitions and have teams who compete in the Devon League of Pétanque England. Membership includes social membership of Wellington Bowling Club, who hold a full programme of events, we also hold joint events and have a developing social side of our own.
The club is affiliated to Pétanque England.
If you would like to come along to try the game please contact us as we have a booking system and so that we can ensure boules are available for you to borrow. If you would like to try the game outside our normal club meetings please contact us - it is likely that members will be available to play with you.
